Devdas is a 2002 Indian romantic drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bansali and based on Sara Sarachandra Chattopadhyay's novel Devdas. This is the third Hindi version in Hindi and the first film version of the colorful story. The film was made in the early seventies and after Shah Rukh Khan as Devdas, he returned from London to marry childhood sweethearts Paro, played by Shabri Rai. However, the rejection of this marriage by her own family became intoxicating in her homeland, eventually offending her feelings and seeking refuge as an aristocrat by the Madhuri Dixit actress.
